Capital Defense Handbook: In this book you find a lot of helpful information. It starts with a brief history of the death penalty. In the following chapters you learn more about the State and Federal Courts, the basics of trial from the arrest to the appeal and the appeal process. The handbook also contains helpful hints for persons with a family member accused of a capital crime, for support groups and for working with the lawyer, and provides information about the organization Murder Victims’ Families for Reconciliation. In the Appendixes you find a description of State and Appellants Courts on Direct Appeal and of Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal and the District of Columbia. A Model Case Summary and a Chart at the end of the handbook help laypersons understand the complicated procedures of capital cases. On the last page you find a glossary with the most important legal terms.
